It isn’t a “Great Room" without a great fireplace
As the Seasons change, so do our decorations. The St. Joe Overlook vacation rental is located in Southwest Michigan meaning we get a solid four seasons here, and we make every effort to ensure the indoor experience matches the time of year. The Thanksgiving items have gone back into storage and Christmas decor is well underway here at the St. Joe Overlook. One of the featured spots in our home is our massive fireplace. We love this great stone fireplace, and it typically gets special attention whenever it comes to decorating.
This fireplace once upon a time was a wood burning fireplace, and was converted many years ago to propane. Cleaning the ash and soot from the top of the stone was quite the task a couple years ago. Although we love wood burning fireplaces, for our guests the convenience of turning a knob and pushing a button to get a great fire is definitely the preferred route.
This Winter, decorating is not the only item to be addressed at the fireplace. We recently received the opportunity to convert our home to natural gas. In such a remote, secluded location, we never thought this would even be an option for this property, but sure enough, the gas company let us know we were eligible to make the upgrade.
Thus, in addition to the work being done to bring the gas line to the house, we will need to make some upgrades inside the house as well. One of those will be to convert our wonderful propane fireplace to be compatible with natural gas.
As always, we are continually looking for ways to improve the St. Joe Overlook as travelers look to visit Michigan’s great Southwest. Our goal is to provide the premiere vacation rental for our guests, and to create the perfect vacation destination.
